Ivy Lodge was first registered as a Residential service for adults with learning disabilities in June 2008 and provides 24 hour care and support to 10 individuals with learning disabilities and challenging behaviours. The service user group is mixed gender.
The building is a brick structure on two levels and is sub divided by connecting doors into two services - providing accommodation for 4 and for 6.
Access to each ‘house’ is at ground level with easy access into and around the home for wheelchair users.
“House 1” - (providing accommodation for 4 adults), has a fully equipped kitchen/dining/lounge area on the ground floor together with a separate, small lounge that provides privacy for service users and their visitors. Outside there is a spacious garden with a smoking shelter.
On the first floor there are four bedrooms. Each of these has en suite facilities; a spacious walk in shower, toilet, wash basin and wall mounted fittings. There is also an additional separate communal bathroom with a bath, hand wash basin and toilet.
A separate downstairs toilet is available for the comfort of service users, staff and visitors.
“House 2” - (providing accommodation for 6 adults), has a large kitchen with modern fixtures, a large, open plan dining / lounge area and 2 downstairs toilets, one which is specifically designed for individuals with mobility needs.
There are two ground floor bedrooms with en-suite (shower, toilet and washbasin) which are suitable for anyone with mobility needs and, as above four spacious, en suite bedrooms are located on the first floor.
Outside there is a garden area including a small vegetable plot tended by service users.
Ivy Lodge is centrally located and close to all local amenities. These include; General Practitioners’ surgery, pharmacy services, supermarket, shops, library, sports centres/facilities, parks, banks and post office.
There are excellent public transport links, with regular bus service to all nearby towns (Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham) and within a short walking distance, train services (Sheffield, Leeds and Wakefield) are available.
The home has a private car park (9 spaces) and off site car-parking is available very close by.
The home is staffed 24 hours a day by a highly trained, motivated staff team (Please See “Professional Development” for further information on staff training) who are managed by a service manager and an assistant manager. Please click on the image above for more details.
A person centered approach ensures the individual’s wishes and needs are met and they remain in control of how they choose to live their lives, the Staff team support the individuals in achieving this whilst ensuring health, safety and well being of the individual is maintained.

Registered Service Manager, Ivy Lodge
Paul joined Ivy Care in June 2008 and is currently the Registered Manager at Ivy Lodge having helped build the service from inception.
With over 25 years experience of working in Health and Social Care, his work has included voluntary work with Doncaster Social Services in piloting their ‘Care to Share’ scheme which provides respite care to the families of children with learning/physical disabilities; holding various roles within a Specialist Residential school for children and young people aged 8 to 19 with SLD (Autism) and challenging behaviour, and; opening and developing a new adult service in Huddersfield.
Paul has a number of relevant qualifications; DipHE (Understanding Human Behaviour), BA (Hons) Social Science, NVQ 4 Care, Registered Managers Award, Certificate in Management, Assessor Award (D32/33), Internal Verifier Award (A1) plus various other NCFE awards such as, The Intermediate Certificate in Safe Handling of Medicines, Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity, Level 2 Certificate in Understanding working in Mental Health.
Paul is also a qualified trainer with the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) on the subject of Managing Actual and Potential Aggression (MAPA) and, along with our other trainer, provides staff within Ivy Care with their initial and ongoing refresher training and any specific behaviour support needs.
With 12 years experience in Health and Social care Sarah has obtained Nvq 2 and 3 in health and social; care. Nvq 3 in management, an nvq in Customer service and also several NCFE qualifications.
Sarah feels that the company has helped her gain the experience she required to help her develop and grow and enjoying the role and her time with the company has helped this.
Assistant Manager, Ivy Lodge
Sarah joined Ivy Care in June 2004 and has worked hard to develop her skills and knowledge base.
Sarah joined the Company as a support worker and was promoted to Acting Senior. Sarah was then promoted to Senior and successfully helped the manager and team establish a new home. Sarah has further developed her skills within this home and was promoted to Deputy Manager in 2013.
