Mental Health Awareness week events:  Ivy Lodge promote ‘MINDFULNESS’ (this years theme).

A big thank you to Sue Rainger and the team at Ivy Lodge for promoting ‘Mindfulness’ during this years Mental Health Awareness week.

Promoting the four key areas of how to be ‘Mindful’, sessions of Meditation, hand, foot and head massage were held throughout the day to remind everyone to make time to be Mindful about how to look after themselves and promote good mental health.

Following this event service users have requested these sessions on a more regular basis to promote well being.

Feedback from Terry on the drop in event held at Barnsley YMCA:

‘They gave out leaflets with some useful information and were doing some arts and crafts which were very interesting.  When I saw someone wood carving I did think about giving this a go myself.

Other activities included playing pool, painting by numbers and talking in a group (I didn’t find this bit interesting).

Refreshments were provided by way of a buffet and I quite enjoyed the drop in and would go again in future.

It gave lots of information about what is out there for people  to help them feel better about themselves.’

Well done to everyone who took part in the Denim for Dementia Coffee Morning at Ivy Lodge, raising £63.00 for the Alzheimer's Society.

Home Grown is the best

‘Hi, I’m Alex and I live at Ivy Lodge.  I decided to grow some veg.  So in early Spring I planted lettuce, basil, coriander, white and red onions, potato's and spring onions.

Some got damaged due to the weather but I managed to get white and red onions and potato's.

They tasted lovely.

I thought I would fail and get nothing because of the weather damaging them all.  So I was quite surprised when I saw the results.

I had help to keep what I had left from all the bad weather.’

‘A wonderful trip down the canal’

By Terry Buxton

In January 2016 I went on a boat trip from Swinton to Mexborough.  I went with Stacey, Alan and Audrey and support staff from Ivy Lodge.

We arrived at 10 o’clock at Swinton Lock and the boat set off at 10:30 am.  It was a wonderful trip down the canal.  The skipper was really nice to us.  We had a lovely cup of tea to keep us warm on the day and I took some nice pictures.  I will definitely be going again when the weather is warmer.
